Ellen Radford
Leah
Ellen Radford was born April 6, 1853 in Provo, Utah to John Whitlock
Radford and Leah Smith. She married Joseph
Hyrum Lovell on August 30,
1869 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They
had eleven children: Joseph Edmund, Martha Ellen,
John Franklin, Edmund, Leah Ann, James
William, Elizabeth Jane, George Hyrum, Sylvia, Ada, and Mary Josephine.
Leah Ellen was a sturdy pioneer woman.
She moved with her family from Utah to Wyoming and then Idaho. There
she endured harsh winters, dealt with Indians, and rescued her daughter
Ada from drowning in a canal.
Leah Ellen died on February 3, 1923
and is buried in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
